Our Conductor, Jeff Stewart

Picture
In Summer 2015, we bid a sad farewell to our beloved conductor, Peter Leech. Peter looked after us for ten years, and made us into the strong choir we are today. Peter returns to the South West, and we wish him every success for the future.

We have, however, been lucky to obtain the services of our new conductor, Jeff Stewart.

Born in Surrey, Jeff studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he won the Harold Rosenthal award for outstanding achievement, and then at the National Opera Studio.

He has performed opera all over Europe, including appearances for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Opera North, Holland Park Opera, English Touring Opera, Komische Oper, Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf and the Macedonian Natioanal Opera.

Jeff Stewart began conducting when he took over the choir of Holy Trinity Church, Bledlow in 2003.
In 2009 Jeff was appointed as Musical director of Uxbridge Choral Society. He has already performed several very ambitious programmes with them, including a full scale Messiah and the world amateur premiere of Sir John Tavener’s Lament For Jerusalem..

Jeff also gives workshops as a guest conductor and was recently invited to become the deputy conductor of Princes Risborough Music Society, for whom he recently conducted his first concert.

Jeff has recently been to Germany to sing Grimes in Altenburg and Laça in Jenůfa.

He can be contacted via his website jeffstewart.co.uk
