An Intimate Evening With Russell Watson at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre

Russell Watson's seventy five night tour arrived at a packed Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on Tuesday and the audience were treated to a wonderful evening of songs and memories. He was joined on stage by the Masquerade String Quartet and Guitarist Chris Allard, all of whom perfectly complemented the tone of the evening, playing with passion, vigour and quality. Edward Rugman, on piano, completely captured the warm emotion of the evening.

In particular, the emotional renditions of “Love on the Rocks” and “Hello Again” – from Neil Diamond’s The Jazz Singer, and “Bring him home” - from Les Miserables, were all delivered to a teary-eyed audience.

Talented soprano Rebecca Newman started her singing career as a student busking on the streets of York to make ends meet. Last night she delivered two stunning songs, both of which were note perfect. Her duet with Russell, “The Prayer”, tingled with emotion.

The second half also saw Russell on stage with invited choir Aylesbury Choral Society, who delivered a heart-felt performance, enjoying every moment of what was truly wonderful singing by the affable and amiable Tenor. This was the second time the Choral Society had performed at the Waterside and again, they did not let the audience down.

Popular favourites such as the Toreador Song from Carmen, Funiculi Funicula, and a storming Nessun Dorma were all delivered with vigour. The latter, in particular, was greeted with great applause. With a final rendition of You Raise Me Up with the choir, this was a completely enjoyable evening, and one the audience shall not forget in a hurry.
